Delbert Mouser

Delbert W. Mouser, 65, of Jackson went to his heavenly home Monday, April 13, 2015.

He was born Sept. 13, 1949, in Lutesville, Missouri, to Albert and Dora Greer Mouser. He and Barbara Kibler were married 31 years. He later married Sue Short-Sappington on March 23, 2002.

Delbert attended school in Jackson.

He entered the Army National Guard on Sept. 3, 1968, and served six years with the 1140th Engineer Battalion in Jackson. He was honorably discharged Dec. 5, 1974.

Delbert owned and operated the former Delbert's Auto Services in Jackson, and worked 37 years in various departments for the city of Jackson. He also served many years as captain of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department. In the early 1980s Delbert and longtime friend and co-worker Randy Welker, another fire captain, assembled a new pumper truck, piece-by-piece, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. He also enjoyed restoring vintage autos and tractors.

He was a faithful member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson. He surrendered his life to the Lord in June 1960 at First Baptist Church in Jackson, and was a member there many years.

Loving survivors include his wife of 13 years, Sue of Jackson; a son, Chris (Jamie) Mouser of Jackson; three stepchildren, Scott (Amy) Sappington of Kelso, Missouri, Lisa (Mike) Little of Chaffee, Missouri, and Renee Sappington of Jackson; a sister, Betty Bretz-Matthews and husband Don of Fruitland; five grandchildren, Annie Mouser and fiance Will Frame, C.J. Mouser, Lauren Mouser, Kayla and Addison Little; a great-grandson, Hunter Frame; a granddaughter expected in June, Amelia Sappington; his faithful dog, Mollie; and the cat, Lucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Leona (Curtis) Goskie and Wilda (Winfred) Slinkard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Don Estes and Josh Boley officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Wounded Warrior Project or Shawnee Hills Baptist Church.
