Delain C. Bendel, 83, of Jackson passed away Friday, April 7, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Illmo to Raymond and Francis Hosea Bendel. He married Sandra Laird of Charleston on July 3, 1959.
Delain was a veteran, serving overseas in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Lemon's Coin Machines in Cape Girardeau, and spent most of his retirement at a lake home he built at Lake of Egypt, Illinois. He and Sandy attended Lake of Egypt Christian Church. He was a friend to anyone and everyone and will be dearly missed.
Delain's greatest love in life was gardening and fishing. His angling skills were unmatched and his greatest joy was passing this passion to his children and grandchildren. He was also a talented artist whose artwork adorns the homes of many of his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandy Bendel of Jackson; two children, Mark (Sarah) Bendel of Columbia, Missouri, and DeLana (Steve) Swafford of Kirkwood, Missouri; four adored grandchildren, Henry and Lee Bendel and Emily and Jack Swafford; and a brother, Gary Bendel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Delain was loved dearly and will be remembered as a man singularly dedicated to his family.
Services are private, with arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
