David Earl Young, 83, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 19, 1936, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Earl and Lucille Craig Young. He married Anita "Louise" Pavish on June 4, 1960, in Wood River, Illinois. They were married 51 years at the time of her passing Nov. 15, 2011.
David was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. He served in the Missouri National Guard and later earned a degree at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Louise and David moved from Cape Girardeau to Jackson in 1968. In 1977 they established Young's Thriftway Drugs in Jackson and owned and operated the business until 1999.
David was an outdoorsman, enjoying golf, hunting and fishing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
Loving survivors include his sister, Jenny Morrison; sons, Steve (Bonnie) Young of Fenton, Missouri, Gregory David Young of Jackson and Brent Young of San Diego; grandchildren, Nate (Jessica) Young, Colin Young, Julia Young and Samuel David Young; a great-granddaughter, Reese Bonne' Young; and Lucky the cat.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Randol Young; sister, Pat McDonald; and daughter-in-law, Lisa.
David's family has elected to not have a memorial visitation or service at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
