SIKESTON, Mo. -- David Jerome Mulcahy, 81, of Sikeston died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at his home. He was born Jan. 26, 1924, at Kennett, Mo., son of Paul and Dicie Lee Whitworth Mulcahy. He and Edna Florence Crowell were married Sept. 23, 1944. Mr. Mulcahy graduated from Morehouse High School, attended Southeast Missouri State University, and had been a pitcher for a fast-pitch softball league...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- David Jerome Mulcahy, 81, of Sikeston died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at his home.

He was born Jan. 26, 1924, at Kennett, Mo., son of Paul and Dicie Lee Whitworth Mulcahy. He and Edna Florence Crowell were married Sept. 23, 1944.

Mr. Mulcahy graduated from Morehouse High School, attended Southeast Missouri State University, and had been a pitcher for a fast-pitch softball league.

He had been on the city of Sikeston Police Force, a teacher for Stoddard County School District, worked for International Shoe Co. 28 years, and worked for Potlatch 10 1/2 years before retiring. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, David Owen and Billie Sue Mulcahy of Dexter, Mo.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lana and Robert E. Taylor of Sikeston, Marcia Ann Mulcahy of Cape Girardeau, Donna and Allen Reeves of Lebanon, Mo.; a brother, William C. "Bud" Mulcahy of Sikeston; a sister, Beatrice Taylor of Gobler, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul B. Mulcahy, and three sisters, Leota Taylor, Latrieve Fray and Marjorie Shipman.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. The Rev. William Marshall, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church; the Rev. DeWayne Coleman, pastor of Canalou Baptist Church; and the Rev. Allen Reeves, pastor of Community Baptist Church, at Lebanon, Mo., will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
