EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- David A. Hutchison, 82, of East Peoria, formerly of Tamms, Ill., passed away at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 21, 1929, in McClure, Ill., to Andrew and Alice Groves Hutchison. He married Betty Jo West on Oct. 28, 1950, in Elco, Ill., at the home of Betty's sister Reba and Jesse White.
She survives along with two daughters, Deborah (Charles) Galbreath of East Peoria, Terri Hutchison of Pekin, Ill.; two sons: David "Mike" (Suzan) Hutchison of Marion, Ind., Rick (Kathy) Hutchison of East Peoria; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Randy Hutchison of Tennessee; two very close cousins, Doris (Junior) Rhodes of Jonesboro, Ill., Birdiann Koch of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an aunt and uncle, Hiram and Josephine Groves, who helped raise him; one sister, Ruth; one brother, Paul; and one half-brother, Arthur.
David served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Following the war, David became a welder and a welding inspector for Caterpillar Inc., retiring after 30 years in 1984.
He was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church in Tamms and a member of Richland Southern Baptist Church in East Peoria. David was a passionate family man, a God-loving man and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He was a member of UAW Local 974 and a lifetime member of American Legion Post in Anna, Ill.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clint Nale officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola, Ill.
