CAIRO, Ill. -- Darrell Ray Shemwell, 73, of Cairo passed away at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, at Integrity Healthcare of Carbondale, Illinois.
Darrell was born Jan. 12, 1948, in Cairo, son to the late Luther Cashman and Frances Hathaway Shemwell.
He owned and operated Shemwell's Barbecue and was a member of Mighty Rivers Worship Center in Cairo.
On March 24, 1983, he married Sue Campbell. She preceded in death Feb. 25, 2015.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Heather Davis.
Survivors include his son, Dustin (Jessica) Shemwell of Jackson; daughter, Kimberly (Ron "Bubba") Davis of Cairo; grandchildren, Trae Davis, Kimberly N. Davis, Callie Shemwell and Miles Shemwell; sister, Jenny Shemwell; and a host of other relatives and friends, including special friend, Emily (Robert) Meyer.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Illinois. The Rev. Dr. Larry L. Potts will officiate. Interment will follow.
Those attending are asked to follow the social-distancing guidelines. Wearing a face mask or covering is strongly recommended.
