Darrell A. Phegley, 87, of Cape Girardeau passed away at 10:23 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, at his residence.
He was born to the late Calvin and Ruby Kempfer Phegley Dec. 6, 1933, in Modoc, Illinois.
Darrell married Shirley Wiegard on June 27, 1953, at St Leo's Catholic Church in Modoc. She survives.
He was a locomotive engineer for Missouri Pacific and South Pacific Railroad for 40 years.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, the National Rife Association and the Locomotive Engineers Local in Scott City.
Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Phegley of Cape Girardeau; four children, Dennis (Jill) Phegley of Red Bud, Illinois; Scott Phegley and Deborah Knox, both of Cape Girardeau; and Dana (Michael) Westrich of Jackson; two brothers, Marle (Marlene) Phegley of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Karnel (Elizabeth) Phegley of Baldwin, Illinois; two sisters, Betty (David) Doiron of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, and Linda (George) Hern of Waterloo, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Tabitha (Dan) Reece, Kevin (Sarah) Phegley, Brandon (Young Kim) Bridwell, Brandy (Chris) Schaefer, Troy Phegley, Molly Phegley, Auggie Phegley, Nick Westrich and Payton Westrich; seven great-grandchildren, Trevor, Allie, R.J., Kyle, Paige, Shelby and Beau; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Mark Phegley; brother, Dale Phegley; and son-in-law, Rulen Knox.
A private funeral service will be held today at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, with Monsignor Dennis Schaefer officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
Memorials contributions may be made in Darrell's memory to American Cancer Society, and memorials are being accepted at the Pechacek Funeral Homes in Red Bud.
