Danny Leo "Dan" Maloney, 56, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 22, 1956, in Dexter, Mo. He joined the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1989, and became a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in 1994. Dan immensely enjoyed his job because he enjoyed being around people and he became friends with most everyone on his mail route. He was an avid St. Louis Rams fan and a St. Louis Cardinals devotee, and he loved going to games of both teams. He was also an avid bowler in his younger years.

On March 16, 1984, he married Pamela Rudolf. She preceded him in death Aug. 15, 2007. On June 14, 2009, he married Cheryl Roeger. She survives.

In addition to his wife, Cheryl, he is survived by his daughters, Julie Maloney of Elsinore, Mo., and Janet (Winston) Baker of Puxico, Mo.; stepdaughter, Emily Hendricks (Mathies) Jensen of Cape Girardeau; sister, Debbie (Jimmie) Darnell of Campbell, Mo.; his father and stepmother, Leo and Lucille Maloney of Sikeston, Mo.; his mother, Delores Maloney of Campbell, Mo.; and three grandsons.

Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel, with Pastors Jim Woeltje and John Tarter officiating. Burial will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the Humane Society or a charity of choice.
