Longtime area pharmacist Dallas Jesse Estes, 86, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born in Marble Hill, Mo., March 22, 1915, son of Sylvester and Maude McGlothlin Estes. He graduated from Cape Central High School, attended Southeast Missouri State University and Bowen Institute of Pharmacy in Brunswick, Mo. Dallas worked at the former Finney's Drug Store from 1936-68, moving to Jackson in 1968 to manage Jones Drug Store, of which he later became part owner. He also worked at Lankford Drug Store in Chaffee and was part owner of Twin Cities Pharmacy in Marble Hill. Dallas practiced pharmacy for well over 50 years and was well-known by many in the community for his compassion and generosity.
On Oct. 4, 1940, he and Jeanette Cranford were married in Cape Girardeau. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Peggy Goddard Davault; son-in-law Dale Davault; grandsons Capt. Matthew W. Goddard and wife Jill of Centerville, Ohio; and Ryan A. Goddard and wife Stephanie of Jackson, Mo.; grandsons Carter Henning and Bo Wayne Goddard; a brother, Carl Mack Estes of Cape.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Mack Estes, his parents and a sister, Ruth Sturm.
Dallas was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Visitation will be at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson Wednesday, May 2, from 4-8 p.m., and funeral will be held there at 10:30 a.m. May 3, with Pastor Randel Poole of New Salem Baptist Church, Marble Hill.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Cape.
