CHARLESTON -- Cortell R. "Ted" Smotherman, 78, of Charleston, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1992, at the Bertrand Retirement Home.
He was born April 7, 1914 in Calloway County, Tenn., the son of Hurshall and Bessie Wyatt Smotherman.
He had lived in Charleston for the past 46 years, where he as a member of the South Side Baptist Church.
In 1980, he retired from the Brown Shoe Co. in Charleston.
On Oct. 5, 1946, he married Lillie Bell Adams, who survives of Charleston.
Also surviving are one son, Kenneth Whitehead of Wynne, Ark.; a daughter, Deborah Smoot of Charleston; two brothers, James Smotherman of East Prairie and Gary Smotherman of Ridgecrest, Calif.; three sisters, Carmon Whitty and Mary Baker, both of East Prairie, and Faye Cardwell of Brewton, Ala.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in Charleston.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Shelby Chapel with the Rev. Dolan Rogers of Sikeston officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
