CORDULA C. PONDER

PERRYVILLE -- Cordula C. Ponder, 90, of Perryville died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at Perry County Nursing Home.

She was born July 11, 1908, in Perry County, daughter of the late Hugo and Caroline Wibbenmeyer Winschel. On Sept. 23, 1930, she married Herman Ponder. He died April 6, 1993.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Western Catholic Union, Apple Creek Branch and Ladies Sodality at St. Vincent de Paul. She had worked as a dietitian at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include five sons, Herman Ponder of French Village, Donald Ponder of St. Louis, Glennon Ponder of Bonne Terre, Francis Ponder of St. Mary and David Ponder of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Mary Dippold, Dorothy Ponder and Jane Baer, all of Perryville; two brothers, Adolph Winschel and Norbert Winschel, both of St. Louis; two sisters, Gertrude Winschel of Perryville and Flora Winkler of St. Louis; 27 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, sister and granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a parish wake at 7 and from 6:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Young & Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic church. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
