Constance Irene Detjen, 97, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Friedheim, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019, at Ratliff Care Center.
Born May 13, 1922, in Arnsberg, she was the only child of Alvin and Cora Stearns Sauer.
She was a graduate of the former Arnsberg grade school.
She and Melvin Elmer Detjen were married April 20, 1947. Two daughters were born to their union, Delores and Judy.
Constance was a wonderful mother and homemaker, and she thoroughly enjoyed farming alongside Melvin. Her other interests included gardening, canning and quilting.
She and Melvin had been married nearly 58 years when Melvin passed away Jan. 30, 2005.
Constance was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim.
Loving survivors include two daughters, Delores (Dean) Meyr of Friedheim and Judy (Floyd “Pete”) Miller of Oak Ridge; seven grandchildren, Delwain Meyr and Dericka (Mike) Newell of Friedheim, Daphine (Bradley) Buerck of Perryville, Missouri, Dawnelle (Jeremy) Zoellner of Jackson, Sheila (Rob) Grayhek, Nathan Miller and Phillip (Natasha) Miller of Oak Ridge; 13 great-grandchildren, Dustin (Janel) Meyr of Perryville, Chantil (Spencer) Bollinger of Sedgewickville, Missouri, Calen (Liza) Buerck of Jackson, Kyran and Kelby Newell of Friedheim, Erin and Ian Grayhek of Oak Ridge, Brayden and Breslin Zoellner of Jackson and Riley, Charlee, Tate and Dani Jo Miller of Oak Ridge; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kota Bollinger of Sedgewickville and Mabel Meyr of Perryville.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Chapel A of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 11 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Roger Steinbrueck officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim or Crown Hospice.
