Connie Whitson

MOUND CITY, Ill. -- Connie Ann Acree Whitson, 47, of Jacksonville, N.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at her home.

She was born Feb. 18, 1959, in Washington, Ga., daughter of Fred Jones and Lula Acree.

Acree was a 1977 graduate of Meridian High School in Mounds, Ill.

She served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1993, attaining the rank of sergeant.

Survivors include her mother of Mound City; three daughters, Keisha Odom, Iesha Whitson and Myria Lucas, all of Jacksonville; three sisters, Sabrina Acree of Mounds, Patricia Jones and Tina Acree of Mound City; a brother, Jimmie Jones of Mount Vernon, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Friends may call at First Missionary Baptist Church in Mound City from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. James Dowell officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery, with military honors provided by Pulaski County VFW Post 8891.
