Con McArthur

MORLEY, Mo. -- Con L. McArthur, 78, of Morley died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Aid, Stoddard County, Mo., son of William Verley and Mabel Gertrude Hudson McArthur. He and Mary Jane Gibbs were married March 6, 1948, in Rock Island, Ill.

Mr. McArthur was a heavy equipment operator before retiring. He was a member of Morley Baptist Church, lifetime member and past commander of Morley VFW Post 5368, and member of Morley Masonic Lodge 184.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served as a gunner's mate on the LCI (M) 805, and participated in the invasion of Okinawa during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Paula McArthur of Bonner Springs, Kan.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra Kay McArthur of Morley, Linda and John McDonough of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a sister, Chloene Witte of Sikeston, Mo.; three grandchildren, Michael McArthur of Bonner Springs, Alec and Lauren McDonough of Poplar Bluff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rodney Davis, pastor of Morley Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in New Morley Cemetery at Morley, with full military rites.
