Beloved Colton Layton Ellis, 23, of Cape Girardeau was taken from his family Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center to be with God. The joy he brought to all who knew him has been silenced.
Colton was born Oct. 13, 1994, in Cape Girardeau to Cheryl Layton Ellis.
He was a 2013 Jackson High School graduate. Specialist Ellis served this country with the 1137th Military Police Co. as a combat medic and was recently deployed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was studying at Southeast Missouri State University, an alum of Tau Kappa Epsilon, and he just entered the Cape Girardeau Police Academy.
Colton was a member of La Croix United Methodist Church. Everyone he met throughout his life was touched by his selfless acts of kindness.
Colton will forever be loved by those he left behind. He is survived by his wife, Brittany Cecil Ellis, and son, Carsen Allen Cecil Ellis. He is the cherished son of Cheryl Layton Ellis of Cape Girardeau, and Timothy Paul Ellis of Portageville, Missouri; beloved grandson of Elsie Williams, Allen Hill of Jackson, Donald Layton of Woodbury, New Jersey, and Dee and Jim Ford of Festus, Missouri. He will also be missed by his many aunts, uncles and cousins, and the many friends he touched who are now considered family.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at La Croix United Methodist Church, 3102 Lexington Ave. in Cape Girardeau.
Pastor Brett Cheek will officiate the funeral service starting at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, with burial immediately following at Cape County Memorial Park, with military honors.
