Clyde Millard Quesenberry, 78 of Olive Branch, Ill., passed away at 9:37 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Clyde was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Wythe County, Va., son of the late John and Annie Quesenberry.

Clyde was a retired Army sergeant major, serving 24 years, including in Korea and Vietnam. Clyde and his 173rd Airborne were the first flight to land in the Vietnam tour.

Clyde was a member of the Pulaski County Memorial VFW Post No. 8891 in Mounds, Ill., and a member of the Pulaski-Alexander County Sportman's Club in Miller City, Ill.

On March 18, 1960, in Miller City, Clyde married the former Judith Faye Yates, who preceded him in death Jan. 17, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tommy Quesenberry.

Survivors include a son, Scott (Donna) Quesenberry of Olive Branch; two granddaughters, Lindsay (Brad) Zeschke, Kourtnee McHughs; three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Brynleigh, Jackson; his mother-in-law, Fleecy Yates of Olive Branch; three sisters, Della Bratton, Agnes Shelton, and Nina (Vance) Lane, all of Pulaski, Va.; and a niece, Kim Story (Dino) Bankson of Olive Branch.

Private graveside services will be Monday at the Olive Branch Cemetery in Olive Branch, with full military honors given by the Illinois Burial Ritual Team and area veterans. Interment will follow.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to Wounded Warriors Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675, or to the American Cancer Society, 4503 W. DeYoung St., Marion, IL 62959, in memory of Clyde M. Quesenberry.
