Cline O. Devenport, 73, of Chanute, Kan., died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at his home.

He was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, son of Claude O. and Grace Noland Devenport. He first married Louise McLaird, who preceded him in death. He and Mable Wolfe had been married 27 years.

Devenport attended Cape Girardeau schools. He served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded two Bronze Stars.

He had worked at Mid America Oil Refinery and Chanute Public Schools.

Survivors include his wife; a son, David Devenport of Chanute; two stepsons, Tom McLaird and Richard Wolfe of Chanute; two stepdaughters, Carol McLaird and Penny Wolfe of Chanute; four sisters, Lucetra Sperry, Adriana Jung, Bee Eaker and Nelda Devenport, all of St. Louis; a brother, Nelson Devenport of St. Louis; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
