CHARLESTON -- Climmie "Bubba" Carter, 89, of Charleston died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born July 21, 1908, at Morall, Ark., son of Markus and Leila Bryant Carter.
He married Cora Bryan on April 9, 1931. She died Jan. 10, 1987.
Carter had lived in Missouri for more than 65 years. He was a retired farm worker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are five sons, Ananias "Blunt" Carter of Chicago Heights, Ill., Edward and Climmie Carter Jr. of Gary, Ind., Chorice and Jerry Carter of Charleston; five daughters, Jaunita and Mary Lue Carter of Gary, Vessie Belvin and Marta Austin of Chicago Heights, and Rose Simpson of Charleston; 56 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son.
Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Opportunity Church of God in Christ. Elder Steve Betts will officiate, with burial at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston.
