Clifford Graham Ashby, 72, a resident of the Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau and formerly of Mississippi County died Friday at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Clifford Graham Ashby, 72, a resident of the Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau and formerly of Mississippi County died Friday at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Mississippi County, the son of Oscar Thomas and Willie Graham Ashby. In 1946 he married Mary Jane Curtis, who survives of Cape Girardeau.

He was a 21-year Air Force veteran and had been employed with the U.S. Government Printing Office in Alexandria, Va. until his retirement.

Other survivors include two sons, Clifton Michael Ashby and Marshall James Ashby, both of Alexandria; three brothers, John T. Ashby of Decatur, Ga., Robert Ashby of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Clyde Ashby of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a sister, Elouise McCarty of Dexter.

His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, where funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. The Rev. Gerald Collier will officiate, and burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston.
