PLAINFIELD, Ind. -- Cliff Burchyett, 80, of Plainfield passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, in the Village of Avon Health Care Facility.
He was born May 20, 1931, in McClure, Ill., to Audrey and Marie Phillips Burchyett. He married Erline Dickson on July 17, 1952.
Cliff was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
He began his employment as a telegraph operator and then became pastor at several churches in Illinois. In 1968 he served as pastor of Plainfield Baptist Church. He then spent several years as associational Sunday school specialist in Nashville, Tenn. Cliff enjoyed gardening, making and baking bread, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Survivors include his wife, Erline; children, Tim (Lori) Burchyett, Greg (Shelley) Burchyett, Susie (Monty) Grover, John (Ella Sue) Burchyett, Bonnie (John) Neal; brothers Don and Jerry Burchyett; sisters, Kathryn Wagner and Gracie Fitzpatrick; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Chapelwood Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Ind. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield, with military honors to be conducted.
