CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Cleophas "Lefty" Halter, 89, of Chaffee died Friday, March 20, 2009, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

He was born July 11, 1919, at Caney, Mo., son of Martin and Helen Baudenstiel Halter. He and Dortha Marion Shoemaker were married Feb. 19, 1944.

Halter was a retired warehouse man employed by Riggs Wholesale in Sikeston, Mo.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Frances Wagoner of Chaffee; two brothers, Harold Halter of Royal Oak, Mich., Charles Halter of Albuqerque, N.M.; three sisters, Norma Seabaugh of Jefferson City, Mo., Lucille McCune of St. Louis, Lorene Sykes of Denver; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Williams Cemetery in Perkins, Mo.
