CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Clayton Wesley Proffer, 94, of Chaffee died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 25, 1916, in Bloomfield, Mo., son of William Franklin and Olive Bethel Williams Proffer Sr. He and Emogene M. Johnson were married Oct. 21, 1948. She preceded him in death May 26, 1982. He and Geneva Hindman were married in December 1982.
Clayton was a sole cementer with Florsheim Shoe Co. in Chaffee. He was a member of Chaffee General Baptist Church.
He was a corporal in the Army Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kay Camp and Joyce Schultz of Chaffee; a brother, William F. Proffer Jr. of Pittsburgh; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, four brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee, with Stan Hargis officiating. Full military rights will be presented by Missouri Military Honors.
