HOWARDVILLE -- Claudette Jane Porter, 44, of Howardville died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

She was born Dec. 20, 1952, at Catron, daughter of J.B. and Margaret McCorkle Rowe.

Porter was a 1971 graduate of Lilbourn High School, and attended a junior college in Gary, Ind.

She was office manager at Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corp. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, LaShaun Johnson with the U.S. Army in Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; a son, Dereick Rowe of Savannah, Ga.; her parents of Howardville; four sisters, Pearl Hicks of Lilbourn, Clois Taylor and Tammy Bell of Howardville, Joyce Cole of Columbia; five brothers, Charles and Cory Rowe of Howardville, Tommy Rowe of Malden, Mark Rowe of Columbia, Donald Rowe of Chicago; maternal grandmother, Pearl Rainer of Blytheville, Ark.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Friends may call at Williams-Farr and Purnell Funeral Home in Howardville from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Howardville Community Center, with the Rev. Jay Slaughter officiating. Burial will be in Simmons Park Cemetery at Catron.
