OAK RIDGE -- Walter Clark Cowan, 85, of Oak Ridge died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at his home.
He was born Sept. 11, 1912, in Cape Girardeau, son of Walter Clark and Ollie Madden Cowan. He and Betty Curry were married June 24, 1951, at Oak Ridge.
Cowan was owner/operator of Cowan Hardware in Oak Ridge from 1955 until retiring in October 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Cowan of St. Louis, Kevin Cowan of Biehle; a brother, James Cowan of Noblesville, Ind.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today, and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.
Funeral service will be at the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Jon Sedgwick officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery.
