CHARLESTON -- Clarence Edward Simpkins, 52, of Indianapolis, Ind., died Sunday, July 19, 1998, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was born Oct. 3, 1946, at Dorena, son of George and Hattie Wilson Simpkins Sr.
Simpkins was a self-employed mechanic and towing operator. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He had lived in Indianapolis 19 years.
Survivors include two sons, Dwayne Simpkins of Indianapolis, Melvin Cross of East St. Louis, Ill.; two daughters, Debra and Tracy Simpkins of East St. Louis; and his mother, Hattie Cross of Pinhook.
Also surviving are four sisters, Mary Jones and Clarice Simpkins of East Prairie, Camilla Patterson of Pinhook, Minnie Thurmond of Charleston; four brothers, Larry, Charlie and Sylvester Simpkins, all of Pinhook, Thomas Simpkins of Hesperia, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers.
Funeral will be at noon Saturday at Sparks Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daryle Carson, a nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.
