PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Clarence "Chuck" Modde Jr., 81, of St. Louis, formerly of Perryville, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Independence Care Center of Perry County in Perryville. He was born July 30, 1931, in Belgique, Mo., son of Clarence and Mary Vessells Modde Sr. He and Sally Buehler were married June 6, 1952, and had five children. PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Clarence "Chuck" Modde Jr., 81, of St. Louis, formerly of Perryville, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Independence Care Center of Perry County in Perryville.

He was born July 30, 1931, in Belgique, Mo., son of Clarence and Mary Vessells Modde Sr. He and Sally Buehler were married June 6, 1952, and had five children. He later married Glenda Cissell on March 31, 1990.

Chuck was a retired rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Craig (Wanda) Modde of Festus, Mo., Sue (Dan) Hotop and Julie (Tom) Sauer of Perryville, Chris (Don) Porter of Cape Girardeau and David (Joni Taylor) Modde of St. Louis; two brothers, Jack and Roger Modde of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren, Emily (Tyson) Wibbenmeyer, Tyler (Lisa) Sauer, Trent (Kristin) Sauer, Gabe (Holly) Hotop, Sarah Modde, Nick (Alicia) Hotop, Blake (Amanda) Sauer, Katie (Ryan) Schaal, Sam Modde, Emma Porter; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Fox and Rose Pilla; and a brother, Lyman "Bud" Modde.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at Kutis South County Chapel in St. Louis.

The funeral will be at noon Monday at Kutis Chapel. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association in his name.

Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville provided the arrangements.
