NEW HAMBURG -- Clarence Kern, 76, of Rockford, Ill., died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1992, in the Swedish-American Hospital, after an extended illness.
He was born June 6, 1915, at New Hamburg, son of William and Bertha Schlitt Kern. He and Velma Nelson were married Jan. 16, 1949. She died April 2, 1989.
Kern worked at Elco Industries 20 years, retiring in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Eceles, Lana Latham and Sharon Kern of Rockford; a brother, Elmer Kern of New Hamburg; two sisters, Sylvia Steimle of New Hamburg, Vernita Getting of Chaffee; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and brother.
Funeral service was held Feb. 15 at Fred C. Olson Mortuary in Rockford.
