CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Clarence M. Halter, 89, of Chaffee died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Aug. 20, 1917, at New Hamburg, Mo., son of Louis and Mary Miederhoff Halter. He and Anna May Miller were married Oct. 16, 1954, at Chaffee. She died Feb. 3, 2004...

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Clarence M. Halter, 89, of Chaffee died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 20, 1917, at New Hamburg, Mo., son of Louis and Mary Miederhoff Halter. He and Anna May Miller were married Oct. 16, 1954, at Chaffee. She died Feb. 3, 2004.

Halter owned and operated Midwest Refrigeration, Halter Refrigeration Service and Chaffee Dairy Queen. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church at New Hamburg, St. Joseph's Men's Sodality, Father Marquette Knights of Columbus Council 11205, Thomas A. Langen Fourth Degree Assembly 568; and Chaffee VFW Post 3127.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Halter of Cape Girardeau, Clem Halter of Chaffee; three daughters, Linda Yarbro and Laura Estes of Chaffee, Patty Halter of St. Louis; three sisters, Rita Lux and Rosemary Hendrickson of New Hamburg, Loretta Haupt of Egypt Mills; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Parish prayers will be at 6:30, followed by Knights of Columbus service.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Lawrence Church, with the Revs. Normand Varone and Ralph Duffner officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
