CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Clarence H. Blattel, 76, of Wappapello, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 1991 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 24, 1914, in Kelso to the late Louis and Bertha Compas Blattel.

On Jan. 2, 1942, in Advance, he married the former Clara Ladine Kern.

He was a truck driver for the ABF Trucking Company for more than 30 years, retiring in 1976.

He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Poplar Bluff, the Elks Lodge in Cape Girardeau and the Silver Jubilee Teamsters Retiree Club of Southeast Missouri.

Survivors include his wife, one son, Clarence H. Blattel, Jr. of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Cheryl Lomax of Benton and Sheila M. Meyers of Cape Girardeau; one-step son, Lilbourn L. Crawford of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Bernice Saffano of Deltona, Fla., and Mary Helen Brooks of Smyrna, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson.

Friends may call at the Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Parrish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, with an Elks Lodge service at 7:30 p.m.

Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with Father Chris Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Lorimier Cemetery.
