SIKESTON -- Clarence Cowley, 82, of Sikeston, died Tuesday, April 9, 1996, at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, Ill.

He was born April 18, 1913, in Union County, Miss., son of Tom and Annie Ivory Cowley. He and Lucresia Visor were married July 14, 1933, in Union County. She died March 23, 1992.

Cowley was a farmer, and member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church. He moved here 10 years ago from Hayti.

Survivors include five sons, James Cowley of Tacoma, Wash., Bobby, Jackie and Denny Cowley of Sikeston, Clarence Cowley Jr. of Hayti; four daughters, Annie Harris of Dolton, Ill., Welthea Smith and Virginia Wilson of Chicago, Azzie Lopez of Tacoma; a sister, Bertha Curry of San Mateo, Calif.; 33 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, two brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 7-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Church, with the Rev. Flem Bronner officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
