PERRYVILLE -- Clare E. Chappius, 89, of Perryville died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Perry County Nursing Home in Perryville. She was born Nov. 17, 1908, at New Hamburg, daughter of William and Magdalina LeGrand Essner. She married Floyd E. "Snubby" Chappius Oct. 28, 1944, in Blytheville, Ark. He died April 9, 1992...

PERRYVILLE -- Clare E. Chappius, 89, of Perryville died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Perry County Nursing Home in Perryville.

She was born Nov. 17, 1908, at New Hamburg, daughter of William and Magdalina LeGrand Essner. She married Floyd E. "Snubby" Chappius Oct. 28, 1944, in Blytheville, Ark. He died April 9, 1992.

Chappius retired as a shoe cutter at International Shoe Co. She was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church.

Survivors include 16 nephews and 11 nieces.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today, and Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:50 a.m. at Miller Family Funeral Home. There will be a parish wake service at 7 tonight, and the rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. Gerard P. Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
