CLARA VANDEFORD

CHAFFEE -- Clara Irene Vandeford, 81, of Chaffee died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born Jan. 21, 1916, near Arbor, daughter of Robert L. and Althia Wiseman Hitt. She first married William O. Holmes in 1937. He died in 1954. She and Ray J. Vandeford were married June 6, 1959. He died Oct. 20, 1988.

Vandeford had worked at Switzer's Candy Co. in St. Louis. She moved to Chaffee in 1976 from St. Louis.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Jost of Jackson; a brother, Tom Hitt of Advance; two sisters, Viola Hahs of St. Louis, Lucille Eakins of Advance; and a grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, two sisters and a brother.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be at the chapel at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Sam Roethemeyer will officiate, with burial in New St. Marcus Cemetery in St. Louis.
