Clara Mae Jacobsin Shanks, 84, died on Sunday, May 30, 1999 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mrs. Shanks was born in Illmo, Mo. on November 18, 1914, the daughter of Harry Alexander and Mary Blakemore Skelly DickeyMrs. Shanks received her B.S. in education from Southeast Missouri State. She taught school for 45 years, 32 of those years in Cape Girardeau and surrounding areas. In 1967 she moved to New Haven, Mo. where she taught for 13 years before her retirement in 1980. Mrs. Shanks served as the minister of Emory United Methodist Church and Senate Grove Methodist Church in New Haven from 1974-1985. She returned to Cape Girardeau in 1985 after retiring from the ministry.
She married John Samuel Jacobsin on August 14, 1961 in Illmo. He preceded her in death in November, 1974.
On September 7, 1985 she married Loren Adair Shanks in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death in July, 1998.
Mrs. Shanks was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Mrs. Shanks is survived by her brother, Rev. Bill Dickey and wife, Alberta of Scott City, two nephews, Jim and David Dickey; two stepdaughters, Katheryn Phelen of O'Fallon, Mo., and Peggy Grasser of St. Peters, Mo.; six step-grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren, three grand nieces and many other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by one sister Margaret Dickey.
Visitation was held Wednesday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be today, June 3, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel with the Revs. Clayton Smith, James Sanderson and Ann Mowery officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
