Cynthia Elizabeth Yanow (Cindie Jeter) of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was the daughter of Anderson Hadlley and Virginia Elizabeth Grimes Jeter. Cynthia married Mark Yanow on Jan 28, 1998. He survives.
Cynthia received a bachelor of science degree in broadcast journalism from Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. Later, she earned two master's degrees, one in political science from the University of Missouri-St Louis and one in public administration from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. She completed her education with a doctorate in political science, all but dissertation, from the University of Missouri-St Louis.
Cynthia enjoyed a successful career in radio broadcast journalism. She started her career in Los Angeles, California, working for multiple radio stations and NBC. Upon moving to Cape Girardeau in 1993, she worked at KZIM and K103. From 2001 to 2013, she was an instructor in the Mass Media Department at Southeast Missouri State University. She was very concerned about the progress of her students and was happy to always be available to them.
Cynthia was a member of the Cape LaCroix United Methodist Church. Her community service included serving on the boards of the American Red Cross and Community Counseling Center Foundation, the Republican Party Women's Club (former president), the Pachyderm Club and Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.
Cynthia's arrangements were entrusted to McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
There will be no service. Inurnment will be private in a family plot in Wells, Texas.
