Chester D. Niswonger, 69, 2549 Marvin, died Tuesday, June 7, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born March 28, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, son of Omer H. and May Grieb Niswonger. He and Thelma "Pat" Crites Leggett were married Jan. 15, 1952, in Piggott, Ark.

Niswonger had been a truck driver, salesman and dispatcher with Charles Harris Association more than 28 years. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Disabled American Veterans, and Travelers Protective Association. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and had been a prisoner of war.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Dan, Steve and Marty Niswonger, Tom Leggett, all of Cape Girardeau, the Rev. Dale Niswonger of Frankfort, Ky.; a daughter, Kaye Nolan of Richmond, Calif.; a brother, John Niswonger of St. Cloud, Fla.; two sisters, Dorothy Mecum and Mary Joiner of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from noon to 9 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Donny Ford, S.S. Borum and Dale Niswonger officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.
