Cheryl Hoemann

Cheryl Ann Hoemann, 67, of Montgomery City, Missouri, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at St. Andrew's New Florence Care Center in New Florence, Missouri, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born Feb. 17, 1951, in Cape Girardeau to Billy Long and Evelyn Sewing Long. Cheryl married John W. Hoemann on June 19, 1976, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jackson. Together they shared more than 42 years of a wonderful marriage, and John was a loving and devoted caregiver to Cheryl as Alzheimer's changed their lives.

She was a 1969 graduate of Jackson High School in Jackson and a 1973 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. During her career as a school librarian, Cheryl obtained her Master in Library Science at the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1992.

Cheryl was proud of her many years of work as a high school librarian. She was the librarian at Hermann High School from 1973 to 1978 and at Montgomery County R-2 High School from 1980 to 2006. She was an active member of the Missouri Association of School Librarians (MASL) and enjoyed serving as MASL president from 2003 to 2004. Cheryl also served many years as a cheerleading sponsor, both at Hermann High School and at Montgomery County R-2 High School. She was also a sponsor for the Young Farm Wives Association for Wellsville-Middletown R-1 and Montgomery County R-2 schools. She was a member of the Retired Teachers of Montgomery County, and during her retirement, she enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, John W. Hoemann of Montgomery City; two children, Mary Newell and husband, John, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and John M. Hoemann and wife, Ann, of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Madeline, Ethan and Olivia Newell and Charlotte, Emma and Bennett Hoemann. She is also survived by her mother, Evelyn Long of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Winnie Long of Festus, Missouri, and MJ Long of Cape Girardeau; one brother, Larry Long and wife, Carrielee, of Richmond, Missouri; dear friend, Carol Thoma of Festus; sister-in-law, Jean Hauser and husband, John, of Wildwood, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hoemann and wife, Diana, of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Kevin Hoemann and wife, Susan, of New Haven, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Billy Long; parents-in-law, Reinhard and Wilma Hoemann; infant granddaughters, Wilma and Hannah Hoemann; and brother-in-law, Keith Lechner.

Cheryl was cremated and a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
