Charlotte Schumacher

Charlotte Schumacher was born Aug. 27, 1919, in Fordyce, Ark. She married Leonard J. Schumacher during World War II and resided in Cape Girardeau.

Charlotte was a prayerful person who was converted to the Catholic faith upon her marriage. She was active in Church Women United and St. Vincent DePaul prayer group, and enjoyed friendship and fellowship with women of many faiths. She was famous for her homemade pies and cakes.

Charlotte loved to travel with her family, camping in the Grand Canyon, Redwood Forest and Glacier National Park. She was an avid conservationist who loved Missouri's Ozark streams, exploring them on camping trips with friends in the "Mission Club," as well as leading Girl Scout trips on the Current and Jacks Fork rivers. After retiring, Charlotte and Leonard enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charlotte is survived by five children, Sue Gibson, Gene Schumacher, Aubre Edgar, Bob Schumacher and Mary Brooks; and a family friend, Pastor Carlos Quintanilla. She had nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, James Patrick.

In lieu of flowers, Charlotte has requested that donations be made to Whole Health Outreach of Ellingon, Mo., care of Sister Rita Schonhoff. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Crain Funeral Home, 829 N. West End Blvd., Cape Girardeau.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
