EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Charley Burney of East Prairie will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel here. The Rev. Amos Johnson will officiate, with burial in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

Burney, 74, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 19, 1921, in Pickwick, Tenn., son of Edward and Fronie Aday Burney. He and Evelyn Hall were married Oct. 2, 1943.

Burney was a retired farmer. He moved to East Prairie in 1968 from the Dorena community.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, James Burney of Las Vegas, Nev., Charlie Burney of Kevil, Ky., Melvin and Brian Burney of East Prairie; two daughters, Patricia Chance and Janie Jernigan of East Prairie; two brothers, Bob and Bill Burney of East Prairie; three sisters, Louise Wallace, Dorothy Marks and Gladys Terry of East Prairie; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
