CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Charles "Shorty" Westrich, son of the late William "Bill" Westrich and Blandine Clara Blattel, was born March 29, 1929, in New Hamburg, Missouri and departed this life on Monday, Feb. 15, 2021 at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau at the age of 91 years.

Shorty was a former employee of Thorngate Ltd. and owner of Shorty's Tavern. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a resident of Chaffee.

On April 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marcella Joyce Moore. She survives of the home in Chaffee.

Besides his wife, other survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Smith of Chaffee and Janet (Elmer) Schaefer of Oran, Missouri; two brothers, James Westrich of Kelso, Missouri, and C.T. Westrich of Cape Girardeau; sister, Viola Diebold of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Melissa Graviett, Tammy Glueck, Jeff Schaefer and Kim Pennington; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Shorty was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jimmy Smith; grandson, Greg Schaefer; and brother, Joe Westrich.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joseph Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
