Charles "Speedy" Wagoner, 87, of Oran, Missouri, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 14, 1935, in Cape Girardeau to Charles and Ada Jean Kapler Wagoner. He and Donna Mae Wagoner were married Dec. 25, 1955. She preceded him death June 23, 2022.
He was a member of and baptized in Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Speedy participated in Oran school athletics. He gained his speed while running through a scary alley at night after work and used that speed in athletics to earn his nickname for life. Speedy had a love of golf, and he enjoyed morning get-togethers with his circle of friends. He was an avid Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks fan and attended many basketball games. Later in life, Speedy enjoyed socializing, serving others and sharing the truth about his Lord and Savior.
Speedy met the love of his life, Donna Mae, at Dutchtown Tiney's Danceland. They married Christmas Day 1955.
Speedy had an experienced career in the insurance business and spent his final working years serving and retiring from Missouri Division of Liquor Control as a state supervisor.
Survivors include son, Brad (Janice) Wagoner of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; two daughters, Tracy (Rick) Blattner and Tori (Joe) Welch, both of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Charles Brandon (Julie) Wagoner, Amber (Brian) Watson, Dr. Trevor (Casie) Blattner, Jill (Donny) Mai and Dalton (Krissy) Welch; and 11 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Lucy and Sarah Wagoner, Marlee and Kendell Watson, Kate, Nora Jane and Lenna Blattner, Ayla and Evie Mai and Charlee Beth Welch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at Lynwood Baptist Church.
Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at the church, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Lynwood Baptist Church.
