Charles Roy Penrod, 88, of Jackson died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at his home.
He was born Aug. 8, 1925, at Dog Holler near Neelys Landing, to Clinton and Hannah Josephine Pinkerton Penrod. He and Lavern Lorraine Kutscher were married Nov. 23, 1950. She died June 29, 2005.
Penrod was a former farm machinery mechanic with H&S Equipment in Jackson. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, including at Iwo Jima and in Japan.
Survivors include a son, Monte (Sharon) Penrod of Jackson; a daughter, Sharon Thurm of New Wells; a sister, Ola Rea Bollinger of Jackson; a grandson, Matt Erlbacher of New Wells; two sisters-in-law, Mary Penrod of Cape Girardeau and Alice Penrod of the state of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavern; six brothers, Glenn, Dennis, Harry, Earless, Clinton Jr. and Howard; two sisters, Lucille and Zola; and a son-in-law, Ellis Thurm.
The funeral was Sept. 10 at New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas, with the Rev. Ken Grant officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
