Charles Meunier

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Charles Lloyd Meunier, 84, of Sikeston died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Blytheville, Ark., son of Charles Thomas and Dora Sweat Meunier. He and Mae Moore were married June 1, 1963, in Jackson.

Meunier worked 31 years at International Shoe Co. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, VFW Post 3174, Sikeston Eagles Aerie 3314, and member of American Legion Post 114 and served in various offices.

He served with Gen. Patton's 3rd Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Rifleman, Good Conduct Medal, ETO and four Bronze Battle Stars.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kevin Meunier of Kelso, Mo.; two daughters, Valarie Arnzen of Benton, Mo., Kimberly Miller of Sikeston; three sisters, Dorothy Meunier, Louise Meunier and Mary Vaughan, all of Sikeston; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A prayer service will be held at 7:30.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Church, with the Rev. Scott Sunnenberg and Monsignor Richard Rolwing officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with military honors conducted by Missouri State Military Funeral Honor Guard.
