MARINE, Ill. -- Charles Edward McLemore, 75, of Marine and formerly of Southeast Missouri, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

Born Sept. 3, 1926, in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., he was the son of John and Grace Vaughn McLemore.

On March 8, 1947, in Chaffee, Mo., he was married to Ella K. Brooks.

A retired switchman for Alton and Southern Railroad, he was a World War II veteran, having served on the USS Colorado in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairview Heights, Ill. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Trainmen Union and a former member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his two sons, Edward L. McLemore of Troy, Ill., Marvin McLemore of Mascoutah, Ill.; three daughters, Sandra Gaines of Cahokia, Ill., Ella Smith of Dekalb, Ill., Karen Rahar of Troy; four sisters, Bessie Kynion of Marine, Bettie Green and Wanda King, both of Cape Girardeau, Shirley Vance of Advance, Mo.; two brothers, Robert and Donnie Mclemore both of Jackson, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday and 8-11 a.m. Tuesday at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial at Marine Cemetery.
