Retired Lt. Col. Charles J. Maher of Oakville, Mo., died after a brief illness at St. Anthony's Medical Center Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005. Retired Lt. Col. Charles J. Maher of Oakville, Mo., died after a brief illness at St. Anthony's Medical Center Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Aug. 17, 1918, son of Charles and Anna Maher of Dublin, Ireland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers William, Thomas and Jack.

Mr. Maher was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving 23 years in the U.S. Air Force.

He is retired civil servant as a cartographer with Aeronautical Charts and Information Center (ACIC) in St. Louis.

Survived by Anna Theresa McGuire Maher of Norristown, Pa., with whom he was married over 64 years. Cherished father of Susie Minor, Judy (Charles) Bender, Michael (Lisa) Maher, Patty (Mark Schulte) Maher, Charles (Louise) Maher, Peter (Cindy) Maher, and Anna (Bahij) Jada; loving grandfather of 14; dearest great-grandfather of seven.

Will be remembered for his love of his Irish heritage and his moving rendition of "Danny Boy", which moved everyone to tears. Charter member of the ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out) of Nazareth Living Center.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road (Butler Hill).

Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4556 Telegraph Road, Oakville. Interment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, (314) 432-3422.
