Charles Lichtenegger

Charles Joseph Lichtenegger, 86, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 27, 1920, in Pocahontas, the son of Henry Edward and Mable Henneretta Swan Lichtenegger. He and Geneva Brown were married on Nov. 22, 1942, in Pocahontas. She survives.

Charles was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. He was treasurer of the Luther League for two years and then chairman for another two years and served as the League Convention chairman for three years. He was a Sunday school teacher for 13 years. He was on the church finance committee, where he served as secretary for three years. He worked on numerous other committees as well as helping to start YMPS for the church.

Charles worked at Proctor & Gamble as a certified line technician until retiring in 1985, and he also farmed until 1986. He was a member of the 4-H Club for four years and a leader for three years. He served on the Pocahontas School Board for three years. He also served on the University of Missouri Extension Committee and the PCA Advisory Committee.

In addition to his loving wife, survivors include daughter, Marcella Marie Arbogast and fiance', John Ford, of Cape Girardeau; son, Jerel Wayne Lichtenegger and Aveliana of Cape Girardeau; three granddaughters, Margaret Marie Turner, Lisa Ann Jones and Anja Genie Marasini; six great-grandchildren, Amber Michele Turner, Emily Lynne Turner, Alexis Marie Arbogast, Preston Wesley Bartels, Madisyn Nycole Bartels and Rajan Marasini and two sisters, Lavern Puchbauer of Jackson and Arlysse Popp of Oak Ridge.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
