CAPE GIRARDEAU -- A memorial service for Charles L. McKinnis Jr. of Granville, Ohio, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church in Granville. The Rev. Duane Johnson will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Brown Cemetery in Perry County, Mo. McPeek Funeral Home of Granville is in charge of arrangements.
McKinnis, 68 years old, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 1991, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born July 10, 1923, in Cape, son of Charles L. and Lois Killough McKinnis. He married the former Margaret Dillard.
McKinnis was a retired research scientist with Owens-Corning Fiberglas Technical Center in Granville.
He was a 1940 graduate of Central High School, received a B.S. degree from Southeast Missouri State University, B.S. and M.S. degrees in ceramic engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla, and Ph.D. from Ohio State University in Columbus.
McKinnis was a jazz musician. He played with the Denison University Concert Band of Granville, and Licking County Symphony. He was a member of Centenary Church in Granville, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nancy Williams of Mansfield, Ohio; a sister, Jerelyn Horowitz of Ocean Hills, Calif., and three grandchildren, Sean, Leslie and Jared.
