Charles Franklin Horn, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Monticello House in Jackson. He was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Danville, Arkansas, to Archie A. and Virginia M. Orr Horn. Charles Franklin Horn, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Monticello House in Jackson.

He was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Danville, Arkansas, to Archie A. and Virginia M. Orr Horn.

He retired from the U.S. Navy, where he served 20-plus years, including in the Vietnam War. He received several awards, including Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He worked as a recruiting officer in the Farmington, Missouri, and St. Louis areas. He also worked as a housing specialist for East Missouri Agency in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger and St. Francois counties for 30-plus years, retiring in 2008.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 3838.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include three daughters, Teresa (Darryl) Strohmeyer of Chaffee, Missouri, Michaela R. Smith of Cape Girardeau and Christina M. Horn of Murphy, California; son, Thomas Charles (Diane) Horn Sr. of Whitewater; two sisters, Louise M. Thompson and Betty J. (Pete) Gann, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, two sisters and a grandson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society.
