Charles M. Hawn, loving family man and faithful Christian servant, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, March 24, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center. He was 74.
He was born Dec. 30, 1931, at Glenallen, Mo., son of Arvel and Vallie Sitze Hawn. He and Agatha Ford were married April 4, 1954.
Hawn served in the United States Army during the Korean War and returned to work at Jackson Frozen Food Locker. He was a meat cutter for Ward's Big Star, and Child's & Mr. C's IGA before going to work for Wetterau Foods for 10 years as perishable supervisor. He bought Hawn's IGA in Marble Hill in 1976 which he sold to semi-retire in 1984.
He served as presiding commissioner of Bollinger County in the mid 1980s and worked as a salesman for Mouser Auto in Jackson until his death.
He was a member and deacon of Lynwood Baptist Church almost 20 years. He was one of the founders of SEMO Son Riders Christian Motorcycle Association and served as Missouri State Coordinator 20 years. He was actively involved in the Bill Glass Prison Ministry and Gideons International.
Charles was a beloved husband for almost 52 years; dear father and father-in-law of Pam and Rick Bandermann, Kim and David Patrick, and Soni and Val Crader. He was a wonderful grandfather to Jason and Sarah Bandermann; Ryan and Kyle Bandermann; Keri and Josh Lemons, who both preceded him in death; Luke, Matt, Zach and Mollie Crader; and Magin, Jeremy, and Ben Patrick. He is also survived by his devoted sister, Maxine Hawn Barrett, and brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Patsy Ford.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 2 to 7 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lynwood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Derek Staples officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lynwood Baptist Mission Fund or Gideons International.
