Charles L. "Charlie" Hanners, 86, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 14, 1934, to Charley W. and Lottie Revelle Hanners, on the family farm, outside of Jackson. He and Gloria Ann Hellman were married June 23, 1956, by Rev. Jens Larson, at Sedgewickville Lutheran Church.
Charlie was a 1952 graduate of Jackson High School. After graduation, he was employed by Farm Bureau Service Center and then the Jackson Hosiery Mill. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany, with the 7th Army as an Aerial Photo Interpreter.
After his honorable discharge, he worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years and achieved the level of Certified Insurance Counselor. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, gardening, fishing and traveling to all 48 states and several countries.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria Hanners of Jackson; two sons, Scott (Rhonda) Hanners of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kent (Sharon) Hanners of St. Charles, Missouri; four grandchildren, Alison, Stephanie, Blake and Katelyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Patsy Jean Terry.
He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and held several positions in the church and school.
The family would like to thank the staff at Southeast Cancer Center for the excellent care Charlie received.
The family will honor Charlie with a private service, Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating.
Private burial and military honors will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson.
