SIKESTON, Mo. -- Charles R. Hammock, 78, of Van Buren, Mo., formerly of Sikeston, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born June 22, 1922, in Belgreen, Ala., son of Charlie and Lula Mitchell Hammock. He and Gloria Whited were married March 21, 1945.
Hammock was a self-employed carpet installer in Sikeston many years. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Sikeston.
He served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jesse Hammock of Sikeston; four daughters, Bonnie Crumpecker of Potosi, Mo., Charlene Dunning of Jeffersonville, Ind., Della Bedell and Laurinda Morrison of Van Buren; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a daughter.
Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. Tom Geers will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
